Overview

The Ford Motor Company has turned most of its attention to the crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks in its lineup, in response to popular demand. Its smallest crossover, the EcoSport, is back for the 2020 model year and it's as fun and affordable as ever. This compact five-seater is the answer for drivers on a budget and those who live or work in urban areas where parking can be a struggle.

One glance inside shows you that the 2020 EcoSport is nicely outfitted, resembling its bigger sibling, the Escape. The materials are of the same high quality, and there's more cargo space than you'll find in most competing small crossovers. Even the exterior paint palette is full of bright colors to give your 2020 Ford EcoSport some extra flair. New for this year, all trims come with 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and the SE trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen with Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system.

Trims and Powertrain

The 2020 Ford EcoSport is sold in four trim levels: the S, SE, SES, and Titanium. The S, SE, and Titanium are front-wheel drive and get their power from a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine with an auto start/stop function for optimal fuel efficiency. The SES gets an intelligent four-wheel drivetrain and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, both of which are optional on the other trims. A six-speed automatic is the sole transmission.

Comfort and Convenience

The S gets a fine list of basics: 16-inch wheels, automatic headlights, integrated blind-spot mirrors, a cargo area cover, cloth seating, a rearview camera, a 60/40 fold-flat rear seat, and a one-touch-down driver's-side window. The SE provides LED lighting, fog lights, roof rails, rear privacy glass, rear parking sensors, keyless entry and ignition, automatic climate control, a sunroof, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. There's an optional Convenience Package for the SE that will supply blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and ambient interior lighting.

With the SES - the EcoSport's athletic variation - the contents of the Convenience Package become standard, along with 17-inch wheels, durable ActiveX seating material, a sport-tuned suspension, and a rear spoiler. A stylish Black Appearance Package is available for this trim to black out the roof, spoiler, and hood decal. At the top of the range, the Titanium supplies perforated leather-trimmed seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a heated steering wheel, and heated side mirrors.

Technology

The S is furnished with a 4.2-inch central screen, a six-speaker audio system, two USB data ports, an onboard 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming. The SE upgrades significantly with an 8-inch touchscreen, Ford SYNC 3 infotainment, satellite radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The optional Convenience Package issues integrated navigation, a seven-speaker audio system, and a 110-volt power outlet. These optional features are standard on the SES, and the Titanium adds a premium 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen Play premium audio system and HD radio.
