The 2020 Ford Expedition is a full-sized sport utility vehicle that can seat up to eight passengers and take on a lot of cargo, inside or on a trailer. The regular model is undeniably large, but there's also a Max edition for those who want even more size. The Expedition, which Ford introduced in 1997, was redesigned in 2018 to start its fourth generation. This model year, The Ford Co-Pilot360 active safety suite and SYNC 3 infotainment system are now standard on all trim levels. Trims and Powertrain


The 2020 Ford Expedition is available in XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum trim levels. Each is made in both standard and extended length (Max) body style. Giving the first three trims their brawn is a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that hammers out 375 horsepower and 470 pounds-feet of torque. The transmission is a 10-speed automatic; rear-wheel drive is standard and four-wheel drive is optional. Although the Platinum trim has the same EcoBoost V6, it's tuned for higher output: 400 hp and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. The Expedition returns an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway with the rear-wheel drivetrain, 17 city/22 highway with the four-wheel drivetrain, and 16 city/21 highway with the Max body style and four-wheel drivetrain.


Comfort and Convenience


The base XLT comes with heated side mirrors, a rearview camera, push-button ignition, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, second-row 40/20/40 and third-row 60/40 split bench fold-flat seats, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. The Limited gets a hands-free liftgate, memory functions for the driver's seat and side mirrors, tri-zone automatic climate control, remote start, ambient interior lighting, a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, and ventilated leather-trimmed front seats. These are all optional for the XLT, and an FX4 Off-Road Package is available for both the XLT and Limited. The King Ranch provides special badging and a panoramic sunroof, while the Platinum tops out with power running boards, multicontour leather seating, wood interior trim, power-folding second- and third-row seating, and noise-reducing windows. Many of those top-trim features are available for the lower trims, and a Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package is available for all.


Technology and Safety


Each of the 2020 Ford Expedition trims gets the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of active driver aids, which includes automatic high beams, a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection. A 360-degree around-view camera is optional on the Limited and standard on the King Ranch and Platinum.


The XLT is outfitted with Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system, which has an 8-inch touchscreen, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot through FordPass Connect, SiriusXM satellite radio, a six-speaker audio system, and two USB data ports. The Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum trims add HD radio, a premium 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, integrated navigation, and wireless device charging. Most of those features, minus the Bang & Olufsen audio system, are available for the XLT as add-ons. All trims have the option of including a dual-headrest rear-seat entertainment system.
